Mumbai Cops Nab Murder Accused from Ulundurpet

VILLUPURAM:A police team from Mumbai with the help of their Ulundurpet counterparts arrested a 35-year-old murder accused on the run, here on Monday.

Sources said that the accused, along with his brother, had brutally assaulted a man after an argument in Mumbai on February 7. The victim succumbed to injuries on February 9.

According to the police, Madhavan (36) and his brother Iyappan (35), natives of Sirupakkam village near Ulundurpet, had been living in Mumbai for the past few years. The siblings had been running a roadside idli shop at Dadar in the metro.

On February 7, the brothers, along with their family members, were shopping in Mumbai when they entered into a wordy duel with one Elumalai (35), a native of S Malaiyanur village in the district, over some petty issue. Elumalai was also their business rival, running an idli shop in Dadar.

Soon, the argument gave way to blows and both Madhavan and Iyappan brutally assaulted Elumalai, before fleeing.

On information, the local police rushed Elumalai to a nearby government hospital. On February 9, Elumalai succumbed to injuries.

Meanwhile, the local police, who had registered an attempt to murder case against the siblings, altered the case to a murder one and launched a search for the duo. A special team was formed to nab the accused.

Based on specific inputs, the special team traced Madhavan to Ulundurpet using his mobile number. A team of officials from the Mumbai police landed in the district on February 12 and roped in the local police to search for Madhavan.

On Monday, the team, with the help of local police, nabbed Madhavan from his hideout at Sirupakkam village. He was later produced before the Ulundurpet magistrate court, which gave his custody toillage near Ulundurpet, had been living in Mumbai for the past few years. The siblings had been running a roadside idli shop at Dadar in the metro.
