Mekedatu Row: TN to Press SC for Early Hearing

CHENNAI:  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister  O Panneerselvam said his government is taking steps to bring up its interim petition in the Supreme Court against the construction of a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu by Karnataka for early hearing.

He was replying to Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) member S R Parthiban in the state Assembly on Wednesday.

Tamil Nadu’s petition had sought a direction from the Supreme Court to order status quo in the Cauvery basin till the Cauvery Management Board was formed and all the cases on the issue were settled, he said. Panneerselvam said the Tamil Nadu government had moved the Supreme Court as the Centre had not replied to his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 12 seeking the Centre’s intervention to stop the activities of the Karnataka government.
