Cook Booked for Raping Two Girls in Coimbatore Ends Life

COIMBATORE: A roti maker, wanted by Coimbatore district police for a sexual assault on two minor girls at Thudiyalur, committed suicide at his home village in Madurai.

According to police, two minor girls, aged 10 and 12, were allegedly raped by the cook at an eatery near Edayarpalayam on February 14.  The girls’ parents lodged a complaint with Thudiyalur All Women Police on Tuesday.

The accused S Muthupalani (55), of Gandhi Nagar, Edayarpalayam was from Pottapatti near Melur, Madurai. He moved here 14 years ago and worked as a roti maker. He married two women but was separated from both.

Police booked him under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act. Following this, the roti maker fled and Coimbatore district police formed three special teams to trace him.

Meanwhile, Muthupalani committed suicide at his home in Pottapatti on Wednesday night. A police team from Coimbatore district went to Madurai to confirm the incident.

“Muthupalani committed suicide by consuming poison. His death was confirmed and his relatives identified the body. We will get the case details from Madurai district police and close the rape case in Thudiyalur All Women Police Station,” said S Amudha, Inspector, All Women Police Station, Thudiyalur.
