Pondy Cops Fired Over Child Prostitution Case

PUDUCHERRY: Eight police personnel involved in a child prostitution case were dismissed from service on Wednesday.

Speaking to Express, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Praveer Ranjan said the dismissal of the policemen was follows departmental enquiry in the issue. This is in continuation of the suspension orders issued as per the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules to the eight cops who were identified by the victims in an identification parade, he said.

The police personnel, now named as accused, are absconding since their identification by the minor girls during the parade held as per directions of Madras High Court. They did not appear for the proceedings initiated by the Puducherry Police Department. The delinquent was absent in the proceedings and could not be apprehended, so the dismissal orders were issued. The IGP said even the charge sheet could not be served on the eight cops as they were absconding. He further informed that criminal proceedings would continue against them.
