VELLORE: Two women committed suicide by setting themselves ablaze following disputes with their husbands at two different places here on Friday.
In the first incident, a 27-year-old woman Sivasankari of Alankuppam in Ambur taluk was constantly harassed by her husband Srinivasan demanding dowry. This led to frequent quarrels between them. On Thursday evening too, the couple had a fight after which Sivasankari took the extreme step. Her father A Govindhan (56), said that he suspected something fishy in the death. A case was registered and inquiry is on.
In the second instance, the deceased, S Nadhiya, living at Periyakuppam in Ambur, often had arguments with her husband V Selvakumar on account of incompatibility. On Februray 23rd, following a similar verbal altercation, Nadhiya set herself ablaze. Even though, she was rushed to the government hospital in Ambur by her husband, she succumbed to her injuries on Friday at the Government Vellore Medical College and Hospital, where she was referred to. A case was registered at the Ambur taluk police station and inquiry is on.
