VELLORE: Residents of 38th ward staged a road-roko on Aanaikulathamman street on Friday demanding regular supply of drinking water. People living in SSK Nagar, Salvanpettai, and surrounding areas said they used to get piped drinking water once every five days. But, supply was stopped for the last 10 days. Bore wells in the locality are under repair and there was no supply of water through tankers either, the protestors alleged.

Hearing information about the stir, the councillor rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors. The locals called off their protest following an assurance by the councillor that arrangements would be made to ensure supply of drinking water. Neelagandan, a resident of Salavanpettai, said, “We were not getting water through the corporation pipe or bore well. Within hours of staging a road-roko, water was supplied through a tanker.”
