Pollachi to Get New IT Office, Quarters in a year

COIMBATORE:  The Income Tax department at Pollachi will get a new office building and quarters within a year, said P P Srinivasan, Additional Director General, Southern Region, Central Public Works Department.

“The Income Tax office at Pollachi has been functioning in a rented place so far. The IT department has acquired the land and handed over to us. We are constructing the office building and quarters which will be ready and handed over to the department within a year,” Srinivasan, said here on Thursday. “The cost of constructing the building is estimated at Rs 3 crore and Rs 3.5 crores, and the cost of quarters will be Rs 1.5 crores,” he added.

The CPWD is also constructing a swimming pool at the CRPF quarters and a quarters at the Forest College. “The swimming pool will be ready in 15 days, and the quarters will be ready in two months. Most of our clients in Coimbatore have been para-military forces,” he said, adding that the entire CRPF complex in the city was developed by the CPWD. The CPWD comes under the Ministry of Urban Development and is the principal agency for creating assets construction and maintenance of buildings of ministries and departments as well as public sector enterprises. The South Zone of CPWD is headquartered in Madurai.

Srinivasan said, the south zone of the CPWD has projected workload of Rs 300 crores that includes the construction of building for IIM Trichy. “The tender for IIM Tiruchy was awarded for Rs 325 crores and works to the tune of Rs 150 crores is going to be carried out in 2015-16,” he said.

Other projects are Employees Provident Fund building at Salem. Income Tax office and residential quarters at Erode, Kendriya Vidyalaya and a Holiday Home for Central government employees at Rameswaram. The department has constructed such Holiday Homes in Madurai, Kanyakumari and Ooty, and plans to build new ones in Kodaikanal and Rameswaram.
