Certificate Racket Busted in Yanam, Mastermind Nabbed

Andhra man had helped 6 students fraudulently gain admission to Navodaya Vidyalaya

PUDUCHERRY: The Yanam police on Saturday arrested six Andhra Pradesh persons for allegedly forging resident certificates for admissions to Jawahar Navodaya Vidalaya in the seats reserved for the natives.

Bamsidhar Reddy, Superintendent of Police (Yanam), said that on September 2, Yanam deputy tahsildar Silamsarasan had lodged a complaint claiming that six students from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh had secured admissions to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The students had claimed to be natives of Yanam and their Nativity Certificates were dubious, as those bore signs of Silambarasam.

Based on the complaint, the police lodged a case and registered an FIR. After preliminary investigations, six persons, including the kingpin of the fake certificate racket and four parents and one guardian (who had provided his address on the certificate) were arrested and produced before a court, which remanded them in judicial custody.

According to investigating officer sub-inspector Sivakumar, the matter came to light when a local approached Silambarasan, raising doubts over the veracity of the certificates purportedly issued by him. After cross-verification, Silambarasan found that the certificates of six students were fake.

The official said that B Hemashankar, K Satyanarayana, B Sivasatyalakhan, G Jeevan Surya Prabakar, G Shanmugha Surya Nagateja and Y Hemanth Satish, all from East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh had secured admissions after furnishing fake certificates. In Navodaya Vidyalaya, 20 seats are reserved for students originally from Yanam.

The official said that the fake certificate racket was masterminded by Tada Venkata Suresh(42), a resident of Amalapura in East Godavari district and the proprietor of a coaching centre. Suresh had allegedly collected Rs 25,000 from the guardians of each student for procuring the admissions.

During interrogation, Suresh reportedly confessed to his crime and said that he had used the names of six persons from Yananm - T Yedukondalu of Sidarthnagar, D Veerababu of Zicria Nagar, B Ramanaiah of Bussi Street, Phusr Gupta, Ziciria and Naga Sujatha from Vishnayalayam - to perpetrate his scheme.
