VIRUDHUNAGAR : What if hard cash is hard to come by? Change the way you work. That is exactly what D Ragunath, a resident of Nenmeni Road at Sattur taluk in the district, decided to do, when faced with falling footfalls post-demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes by the Centre.

Ragunath, who owns Raghu Broilers on Sattur Main Road which sells chicken and fish, has placed a Point of Sale (PoS) machine at his shop to retain his customers.

“Though people were able to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes from the bank, it was difficult for them to get change from shops. People who came to my shop to buy met for Rs 100 or Rs 200 gave me Rs 2,000. Initially, I was able to give them change, but later even I could not get hold of Rs 100s. So I applied for the PoS machine at the bank some 20 days ago. For the last few days, the PoS machine is up and running and the response is good,” said Ragunath, a diploma holder.

He said that he has to pay a monthly rent of Rs 750 to the bank to use the PoS machine. “If a customer make a purchase for Rs 100, I charge an extra  Rs 1 to use the PoS machine. The people do not bother about paying Rs 1 extra as they have to wait for hours in banks and ATMs to withdraw money,” he said.

Ragunath said the PoS technology is very helpful for his business as he is able to do business using the machine for nearly Rs 5,000 per day.
