VILLUPURAM: A 10-year-old boy died while his mother sustained grievous injuries when a wall of their house collapsed, trapping them in the debris, near Thirunavalur on Saturday night.
According to sources, Rajangam, a resident of Vijayankuppam near Thirunavalur, was a bigamous man. He used to stay with his 35-year-old wife Rukkumani(35) and son Guru(10), a class V student at a government primary school in Vijayankuppam.
On Saturday, Rajangam had gone to his second wife’s place nearby, leaving his first wife and child alone. During the night, a mud wall of the house collapsed, trapping Rukkumani and Guru. Hearing their cries for help, a few neighbours rushed to their house, broke open the front door and pulled them out of the debris.
Rukkumani and Guru were sent to the government hospital at Ulundurpet. However, Guru succumbed to injuries.
