TIRUCHY: Kutti Kudi Thiruvizha, the annual festival of Kuzhumayee Amman temple near Puthur is only one of its kind in the locality where the temple priest tastes the blood of hundred of goats on behalf of the God. 'Kutti Kudithal' which translates into tasting the blood of lambs which is the ritual on the occasion attracts huge number of devotees across the state.

Hundreds of lambs are sacrificed every year in the Tamil month of Masi by devotees from various communities to get the blessings Goddess Kuzhumayee Amman during the 'Kutti Kudi' festival in the temple. The festival is celebrated in the span of four days.  The lambs are sacrificed on the third day of the festival. Devotees participated in the festival in large numbers carrying the lambs for the sacrifice.

The temple priest Sivakumar, termed himself as Marulali, is adorned as the village god Ondi Karupu. He is then carried by two devotees on their shoulders and accepted the 'offering' by tasting the bloods of the goats which is followed by giving counselling to the devotees.
