TIRUCHY: Students of IIIT-Srirangam called off their strike following peace talks by officials from the Ministry of Human Resource Development here in Tiruchy on Friday. The students withdrew their protest on the condition that they would take their second semester exam under a new mentor institution.
On Friday, Tripti Gurha, Director, IITs and IIITs, MHRD, visited the city and held peace talks with the students. Sources said she had assured the students that their concerns would be taken to the next level and the problem sorted out. To this end, she said it would take some time and appealed to the students to drop their agitation.
“We called off our agitation, but informed her that we would be writing our second semester only in the new mentor institute”, said a student.
Earlier, she visited the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchy campus and held talks with the institute’s management, said sources.
