

NAGAPATTTINAM: Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled to be held on May 16, as the preliminary arrangements for conducting the mandate in transparent manner are being taken up, the district administration on Sunday reviewed the security arrangements to be at Kodiyampalayam polling station falling under Sirkazhi (reserved) assembly constituency.
As the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), Control Unit, and other election materials would be taken to the Kodiyampalayam polling station through boats, district collector S Palanisamy visited the polling booth to ensure the availability of basic amenities for the election officials during the mandate.
According to district administration, the Kodiyampalayam polling booth (booth number 37) falling under Sirkazhi (reserved) assembly constituency has as many as 976 eligible voters including 481 male and 495 female voters.
Though there is a standard road route but plying via Chidambaram town to access the Kodiyampalayam village in Sirkazhi taluk, as special permissions are required to transport the voting machines and other election materials through Chidambaram constituency that falls under Cuddalore district, it is said for decades, the voting machines during Model Code of Conduct (MCC) period are being taken to Kodiyampalayam village through boats specially arranged for this purpose from Pazhayar fishing hamlet near Sirkazhi.
Apparently on Sunday, district collector S Palanisamy along with revenue officials from Sirkazhi taluk inspected the mode of transport from Pazhayar village to Kodiyampalayam village, through which the voting machines would be taken to and fro during the election day with police protection.
As election officials appointed for the polling booth in Kodiyampalayam would stay in booth to be established at the middle high school of Kodiyampalayam village, measures to ensure basic amenities including water, rest room and special facilities for differently abled voters were inspected by the district collector.
Inspecting the safety arrangements for commuting in boats, district collector had also insisted the election officials for Sirkazhi assembly constituency to ensure round the clock power supply to the particular booth in Kodiyampalayam village.
