Tiruchy girl seeks collector's help to pursue higher studies

TIRUCHY: A girl who passed her Plus Two examinations with 1,049 marks this year has knocked the district collector’s office for monetary assistance to pursue higher studies at the grievance day meet. Though she had got admission in a Government Aided Women’s College in Tiruchy, her father, a farm labourer who accompanied her to the Collectorate, sought the district administration’s help to support his daughter’s education expenses.

Though the grievance meet commenced after a long gap of more than one-and-a-half months as the model code of conduct was in effect, a minimum number of general public could be seen around the Collectorate.

S Kiruthika (18) and her father V Sadhasivam from Anbil village near Lalgudi in Tiruchy district were seen enquiring about where and how to hand over an application to District Collector K S Palanisamy.

Asked about her petition as she came out from the chamber after handing over the memorandum to the Collector, Kiruthika, who studied at the Government Higher Secondary School at Anbil, said she aspires to pursue her studies in biotechnology.

“Though I want to pursue my studies in biotechnology, I was able to get admission only for Botany in an aided college in the city as we cannot afford the fees in other institutions offering the course. Still, I have remitted `8,000 as fee,” Kiruthika said.

Though we managed to pay the college fees, it would be very difficult to spend money on books, notes and semester fee, said her father V Sathasivam.

“If the Collector could extend a helping hand to my daughter to complete her studies, it would be very helpful,” he said, adding that the Collector had asked them to come and meet him after two days.
