CHENNAI: Four more months has been granted by Madras High Court to the investigating officer (IO) to complete the probe on the plaint alleging corruption charges against former Transport minister V Senthil Balaji.

The first bench of Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan granted the extension following a request from the IO, on Monday.

Balaji is the ruling AIADMK candidate for the November 19 elections to Aravakurichi Assembly constituency.

When the matter came up, the IO submitted the status report relating the investigation and pleaded for four
more months to complete the investigation.

The bench replied that the needful should be done and the final report filed within 15 days thereafter. In the event of any delay for any reason, extension of time should be sought for from this court by making an
application, the bench made it clear.

Originally, the bench on October 26 last had dismissed the PIL of Basker, who sought to direct the Election Commission of India, to reject the nomination of Senthil Balaji, on grounds of corruption.

The bench, however, had directed the IO to file the progress report on the case pending before the Assistant Commissioner of Police and monitored by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, CCB.
