Police has filed a case against a driver of a children’s home, who sexually assaulted a terminally ill girl staying at the home.
According to sources, on March 21, Childline (1098) forwarded a complaint to Child Welfare Committee regarding the abuse of an inmate in child care home in Kalapet.
The CWC conducted an inquiry with the inmates. A few children appeared before CWC and during the counselling session by a CWC member, a HIV infected child (17 years) revealed that she had been sexually exploited by , Jhonny, who is working as a driver in the Institution.
She also informed the authorities of the home were informed, but no action was taken. The minor girl was provided counselling and here statement (written) was recorded.
As the statement given by minor girl revealed about penetrativesexual assault under POCSO Act, the complaint was forwarded to the Police, who filed a case under Section 6 of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In another case of sexual assault on a minor girl, Police has filed a case under POCSO Act against one Iyyappan, employed with police.
On April 1, a team of CWC officials, ICPS and Childline headed by Chairperson CWC, Dr Vidyaa Ramkumar conducted a sensitization programme in Kathirkamam Government Girls Higher Secondary School. During the course of the programme, many children came forward to reveal about the abuse faced by them.
A child (13 years) revealed that she was sexually assaulted by Iyyapan, working in Puducherry Police Department, in her house, frequently.
Taking cognizance of the statement given by minor girl, which revealed sexual assault and the police filed a case against the accused under POCSO Act.
Police are conducting further inquiries in the cases and sources said the accused persons will be arrested soon.
