PUDUCHERRY: On the opening day of filing nominations, two independents and a Janatha Dal (U) nominee filed nominations for contesting the May 16 Assembly elections in the Union Territory .
District Election Officer P Jawahar said that K.Murugan filed his nomination from Lawspet as Independent, N.Balu from Ozhukarai also as Impendent and K Ramadass from Embalam (SC) as JD (U).
The last day for filing nominations is on April 29 . There would be no filing of nominations on Saturday as it was fourth Saturday which has been declared as a public holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act. The Election Commission also clarified that ‘public holiday’ is defined as any day which has been declared as public holiday under section 25 of the Negotiable instruments
