THENI: Private candidates writing their eighth standard examination were given question papers along with answer papers in a private school here on Thursday.
A source said that the 8th Standard Public Examination (ESLC) for private candidates started on April 18. The mathematics examination was held in a private school in Theni where the mix-up happened.
Around 60 private candidates were present for the examination at the venue. With the government being distracted with election activities, it is believed that a few teachers may have utilised the opportunity to generate money, said another source. It was also speculated that the question paper could have been stolen on Wednesday and answers prepared overnight. J Nagaraj, DEEO, Periyakulam, told Express that an inquiry is being conducted.
