Provide Treatment to Rajiv Case Convict: HC

MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Thursday directed the prison authorities to provide treatment immediately to a convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case who has been suffering from serious health problems.

A division bench of Justices A Selvam and B Gokuldas pronounced the interim order following which Ravi alias Ravichandran, the convict lodged in Madurai Central Prison was taken to Government Rajaji Hospital and given medical check- up.

Ravi’s mother P Rajeswari of Aruppukottai told in her petition that her son was ailing and could not take solid foods and had lost 8 kg in the last two-and-a-half months. She claimed that he was not provided proper treatment in the jail and wanted him to be shifted to GRH.

The court also ordered notice to the State home secretary and the ADGP (Prisons) and adjourned the case to June 2.
