Jaya Promises to Strive for Special Statehood Status for UT

PUDUCHERRY: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general Secretary J Jayalalithaa said her party will strive for special statehood for Puducherry, if AIADMK is elected to power in the Union Territory.

Addressing the gathering at the election campaign for AIADMK candidates on Monday, she promised that her party will take steps to, waiver of the Rs 6400 crores loan dues of the UT. She also stressed all the social welfare schemes implemented in Tamil Nadu will also be implemented in Puducherry also.

She said new industrial policy for industrial development with accent on starting of new industries and single window clearance for it.

The AIADMK chief promised that Pondicherry and Oulgaret municipalities will be merged to form a corporation and will take steps to hold civic body elections with 50 per cent reservation for women.

She said self sufficiency in electricity generation will be achieved by giving more attention to solar power.

The AIADMK general Secretary said priority for education will accorded and will strive to implement 50 percent reservation for local students in the Pondicherry University. She also promised that her party will attempt for enhancing the Under Graduate seats to 250 and also enhancement of PG seats and 50 percent reservation for local students in JIPMER.

Jayalalithaa also promised to set up a government medical college at Karaikal and will strike for making Puducherry a major tourist destination.

She said all efforts will be taken to modernize and reopening of AFT, Swadeshi and Bharathi textile mills and will provide jobs for 15000 persons,

Stressing that if the AIADMK could provide fifty years development in five years, if voted to power, she said that the AIADMK is having 49 parliament members and they would exert pressure on the Centre and will take up issues of UT inside parliament and party will execute all the development projects.

She exhorted the people to throw out the “anti-people “government and to put an end to the corrupt Congress-DMK alliance.

Earlier, Jayalalithaa listed several welfare schemes were implemented in Tamil Nadu, she said only AIADMK has the experience and ability to lead a state to the path of development. I

The AIADMK government only will lead Puducherry to development and develop the lives of the people here, she said and added that a change alone can ensure development, she added.
