CHENNAI: Special prayers were offered at the Poes Garden residence of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to mark the 11th day of her demise. VK Sasikala, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, his cabinet colleagues and senior functionaries of the party attended the ceremony.
Talking to mediapersons after the ceremony was over at Poes Garden, C Ponnaiyan, spokesperson of the AIADMK, reiterated that party functionaries from top to grassroots level, had unanimously proposed that Sasikala take over the mantle of the party. “But she had been keeping silent till now and all of us hope that she will heed our appeal,” he added.
Ponnaiyan also showed a document relating to the investment of `7 lakh made by Jayalalithaa way back in 1991 with the Shriram Investments Limited and mentioning Sasikala as the nominee for that investment.
“This has clearly shows that Jayalalithaa had indicated Sasikala as her heir,” Ponnaiyan claimed.
Meanwhile, party sources said senior leaders of the AIADMK are likely to meet Sasikala again on Saturday to discuss the party affairs.
