CHENNAI: In the backdrop of the party’s nod to collect nominations from aspirants, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) chief EVKS Elangovan has declared that he would not contest the forthcoming Assembly polls in the State.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai Airport on his return from New Delhi, where he had discussions with Congress’ heir-apparent Rahul Gandhi regarding alliances, he said, “I have decided not contest the upcoming TN polls. But I would intensely campaign for the Congress party candidates across the state.”

Answering a question on prospective tie-ups with other parties for the upcoming polls, he said that a decision on alliance would be taken by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) office bearers in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Gopanna, on Sunday, invited applications from poll aspirants across Tamil Nadu to be submitted between February 10 to 15.
