COIMBATORE: The lawyer of music director Anirudh Ravichander submitted a petition to the Race Course police, requesting that the composer be given an extension of 15 days to appear before the police. The petition was handed over on Saturday.

Anirudh and actor Silambarasan were booked under various sections of the IPC and the Information Technology Act for allegedly releasing a song, popularly known as the “Beep Song” online. The song has been described by women’s rights activists to be sexist and derogatory towards women.

In his petition, Anirudh stated that he is not in the country and that he was presently touring in the United Kingdom and raising money for flood-affected people in Chennai. The city police had asked him to appear on January 2, 2016.

The musician said that he would return to the country during the second week of January and assured police that he would appear before them personally. He again denied that he was associated with the song.” I am no way connected to the controversial song. The song is neither my composition nor did I write the lyrics, “ he has said in his petition.
