CHENNAI: Claiming that relief granted to the flood-victims is insufficient, the Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG) and NGO Arunodhaya along with local collectives and student researchers demanded a complete re-assessment of the damages before extending relief.
Addressing media on Wednesday, the civil society groups highlighted the various losses faced by the residents. “The complete-extent of damage had to be assessed before relief-aid was given,” said Satyarupa Shekar, of CAG, who along with the collectives, conducted a survey to quantify the losses.
The survey, with 610 respondent families, was conducted among the affected localities like Jaffarkhanpet, Saidapet, Ekkattuthangal, Kotturpuram, newly-announced resettlement areas like Semmanchery and Perumbakkam and other inundated localities.
