Veteran film director MR Viswanathan Enters BJP fold

CHENNAI: Veteran film director MR Viswanathan (70), popularly known as Visu, joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan at the party office here on Saturday.

“I have wide experience in interacting with all sections of people through my talk shows - Arattai Arangam and Makkal Arangam, which lasted for 21 years. I have travelled every nook and corner of Tamil Nadu and I know the pulse of the people. Will take the BJP to the grassroots in the coming days,” Visu told Express after his entry.

Visu, known in film industry circle as an ever-enthusiastic personality, started his career as a stage artiste during his school days. He had acted in over 50 films and directed over 35 films and written script for many a successful movies in Tamil. His successful movies include Kudumbam Oru Kadhambam, Manal Kayiru and Samsaaram Adhu Minsaaram.

Visu also recalled that for every talk show, he used conduct meetings for selecting persons who would be speaking. “For every show, I used to personally interact with 500 persons. Because of that, I have experienced problems and issues faced by people from poor and middle class,” he added.

He joined the AIADMK on April 25, 2006 after meeting AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa at Erode. He was anchoring a talk show - Visuvin Makkal Arangam in Jaya TV for a long time. He joined the AIADMK on April 25, 2006 after meeting AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa at Erode.
