MADURAI: After finally managing to wrap up the alliance deal following protracted negotiations with the DMDK, the four-party People’s Welfare Alliance (PWA) is aiming to finish the negotiations on seat-sharing among themselves quickly before it hits the ground running ahead of the coming Assembly polls in May.

According to the broad contours that are emerging, the MDMK, the prime mover behind the formation of the alliance, is eyeing at 40 assembly constituency among the 110 that the PWA is contesting. The Dalit outfit VCK will contest from 30 seats, while the CPM and CPI would fight from 22 and 18 seats respectively, said sources. However, a final deal is yet to be made.

The DMDK will contest from the rest 124 seats.

“The PWA and DMDK have reached a broad agreement on seat-sharing. We have to allot seats to parties which are holding talks with PWA from the 110 seats allotted to us, just as the DMDK has to allot seats to the parties which are in talks with them from their quota of 124,” said VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said on Thursday morning.

Sources in MDMK said the party general secretary and alliance convenor Vaiko, who had once eyed Sattur constituency in Virudhunagar, is now also considering Velacherry in Chennai.
