PUDUCHERRY: The Central Excise and Service Tax commissionerate here has been accredited with the Service Quality Management System (SQMS) certification license for IS 15700: 2005 by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the apex standards certifying agency of Government of India.
Revealing this, Commissioner U Niranjan said the license has been granted to the headquarters office of the Puducherry commissionerate.
He said the service deliverables covered in the said license are acknowledgement of all written communications, conveying decisions on matters and release of non-required sized documents, within specified time limit.
Explaining, he said the SEVOTTAM scheme, which broadly envisages the above SQMS for the grant of IS 15700:2005, is the flagship scheme of the Government of India, which aims at excellence in delivery of services by public organizations.
The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has initiated the above process to be implemented in all its field offices through the widely publicized citizen’s charter which aims at putting the customer first.
The IS 15700: 2005 guidelines seek to implement stringent procedures through which a public service organization constituently strives to provide and maintain efficient service delivery mechanism which meets customer satisfaction and requirements.
The core function of tax administration is to encourage voluntary compliance among the tax payers to fulfill their tax obligations through seamless and efficient service delivery.
Commissioner Niranjan said even after being certified under the IS15700:2005 standards, the commissionerate will commit itself to meet, evolve and constantly raise the standards of services, with the sole objective of enhancing customer satisfaction.
