‘Charges against Madhan after rift’

Filmmaker S Madhan’s family rejected claims that he swindled crores of rupees from SRM group chairman T R Pachamuthu and went absconding fearing police action.

CHENNAI: Filmmaker S Madhan’s family rejected claims that he swindled crores of rupees from SRM group chairman T R Pachamuthu and went absconding fearing police action.

The police were on the look out for Madhan since May when he went missing after allegedly collecting huge sums from over 100 parents promising MBBS seats. The case also resulted in the arrest of Pachamuthu, chairman of the famous SRM group. “Madhan handed over the huge amount of money collected from the parents to Pachamuthu and he was nothing more than a admission agent for the last eight years,” said Madhan’s mother S Thangam.

These charges were framed against his name following a rift earlier last year with Pachamuthu’s son P Ravi, who threatened Madhan with the help of two senior IPS officers, she added.

Calling allegations that Madhan had illicit relationship with other women as an attempt to defame him, his wife M Sumalatha said that evidence (confession statements from former colleagues) presented against him were cooked up and they would take the legal route to prove them wrong.
