Kovai autos to run on meter fare from January

COIMBATORE: Coimbatore district all auto employee union federation determined that they would operate as per auto meter rate, which was decided by the federation as minimum charge Rs 30 and Rs 15 for per km, from January 1.

“As per our federation decision on October 28, auto drivers those are attached to the federation will operate as rate prescribed by the federation. In this regard, we have already given a intimation to Transport Department earlier,” said PK Sukumaran, President of the federation.

“Preparing to run autos under the tariff, we have initiated all effort as tariff card has been provided to 6,000 auto drivers in the city,” Sukumaran said.

“Our objective is bring all auto drivers to run under auto meter tariff. Otherwise, corporate auto firms would occupy the profession entirely,” Sukumaran added.

“Making awareness about running the autos under meter tariff, we are conducting meeting and camp among the drivers. The drivers assured that they would run auto as per prescribed tariff, which was framed as per convenience between consumers and auto employees, by the federation,” PK Sukumaran, President of the federation added.

However, an official of transport department opined that they did not give any approval on the auto meter tariff which was framed by the federation.
