19 years on, Advani to visit Kovai for Isha event

Veteran BJP leader L K Advani will be in Coimbatore for three days in connection with the unveiling of the 112-feet bust of Adiyogi at Isha Yoga Centre.

COIMBATORE: Veteran BJP leader L K Advani will be in Coimbatore for three days in connection with the unveiling of the 112-feet bust of Adiyogi at Isha Yoga Centre. He will stay in the city from February 25 to 27 and participate in the celebrations at the centre, which is about 25 km from here.

After the 1998 serial bomb blasts in the city, this is the first time that Advani is coming to Coimbatore, though he has visited Tamil Nadu five times since then, said Vanathi Srinivasan, State BJP general secretary.

The blast, which killed 58 people and injured over 250, took place on February 14, 1998, just before Advani was to speak at a campaign meeting in RS Puram.

Tight security

To ensure security during Advani’ visit, IG (Intelligence) Davidson Devasirvatham, ADGP J K Tripathy and SP (SPG) Suresh Kumar arrived in the city and held a meeting with Isha Yoga authorities.
A meeting of airline, airport and Air Force authorities, City and District police officers (L&O and Traffic) and Health officials was conducted to ensure that nothing goes wrong during the visit.
Also, two rehearsals of the helicopter flight that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take from the airport to the Isha Yoga Centre on Friday have been done.

To ensure free flow of traffic on Friday, the public have been urged to avoid using the Sungam, Ukkadam and Perur bypass roads and the Selvapuram-Perur road as leaders would be using these roads to go the Yoga centre.

The public have also been advised not to park vehicles between Ukkadam Link Road and Ukkadam-Perur bypass and between the Selvapuram Sivalaya Junction and Telugupalayam.

In addition, no heavy vehicles will be allowed on the roads between 8 am and 9 pm on Friday, said a release from the traffic police.
