COIMBATORE: While the mystery about valuables looted from the Kodanad estate bungalow, which belongs to former CM J Jayalalithaa, continues, the Nilgiris police are likely to interrogate a businessman in connection to the case. The police decided to do so after it was found that the prime accused Kanakaraj had contacted the businessmen just a few days before the robbery and murder.

Speaking to Express, a mid-level officer of Nilgiris district police involved in the investigation, said, “One of the accused, who was arrested in connection with the estate, had worked in the interior design concern of the businessman. The businessman had gone to Dubai just two days before the incident. As of now, the businessman is not in Nilgiris. Once he reaches Nilgiris, we are to investigate with him.”

The Nilgiris district police were frustrated, as they did not know what was actually robbed from the bungalow. “As suspicions are developing in the case, we are to investigate whether they had robbed documents or anything else from the estate,” a top official in Coimbatore range said on condition of anonymity.

The businessman was allegedly said to be in close contact with a top AIADMK functionary, which could be confirmed only after investigating with him, the official said.
Meanwhile, Nilgiris Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha on Wednesday, visited the site in Salem, where C Kanagaraj was involved in an accident, to corroborate evidence and search for new clues. The SP later went to Coimbatore, where he met Sayan, who was admitted in a private hospital.
