MLA appears before police over inquiry in Kodanadu case

COIMBATORE: V C Arukutty, an MLA of the AIADMK’s Puratchi Thalaivi Amma faction, today appeared before Athur Police in Salem district, in connection with the April 28 death of Kanagaraj, the former driver of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

Kanagaraj was the prime suspect in the break-in and murder of a security guard, Om Bahadur, on April 24 at Jayalalithaa’s Kodanadu bungalow.

Kanagaraj died in an accident in Salem on April 28.

Having found that Arukutty, MLA representing Kavundampalayam in the city, was in regular contact with Kanagaraj over the phone, the police had summoned him for inquiry for tomorrow. But he preferred to appear today, police said.

Earlier, Arukutty told reporters here that he was asked to appear before police since he was in the call list of Kanagaraj, who introduced himself as former driver of Jayalalithaa.

“I used to hire him as a driver, whenever I was in Chennai”, he said.

“However, I stopped talking to him during the past two months, since he had objected to my supporting O Paneerselvam,” Arukutty said.
