Meteorological Department predicts reduced rain

The Met department has, however, predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai districts in north coastal Tamil Nadu.

CHENNAI: The Met department on Monday said monsoon rains would reduce significantly from November 8-9, though a new trough of low pressure at mean sea level lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Sri Lankan coast.

S Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, said the new system was very deep and almost close to the equator. “It will not bring copious rainfall unlike the earlier low pressure area,” he said. At max, the new system may bring some rainfall to southern parts of the State like Kanniyakumari and neighbouring districts.

Meanwhile, the earlier system has become less marked losing its impact. The Met department has, however, predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai districts in north coastal Tamil Nadu, south Tamil Nadu and over Karaikal area. On Monday, Nungambakkam recorded 5 mm rainfall.
