NEW DELHI: Tussle between the two factions in Tamil Nadu refused to cease as Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa on Tuesday met Chief Election Commissioner demanding for the disqualification of AIADMK (Amma) faction candidate T T V Dinakaran in the RK Nagar bypoll.

“The EC has assured to take action against T T V Dinakaran and his supporters who were involved in the malpractice,” she said.

Earlier, the poll panel had received many complaints about inducement including gifts and cash given to influence voters being possibly offered inducements. In its probe, it found that the political parties and their top leaders used innovative ways to bribe voters in the R K Nagar Assembly constituency.  EC had cancelled the RK Nagar by-election after taking note of the money being distributed in the constituency.

Pushpa also explained the EC about the circumstances in which Sasikala Natarajan was elevation as AIADMK's interim general secretary and her nephew to the second top position after the death of then chief minister J Jayalalithaa. She said that T T V Dinakaran was never a primary member and despite this he was given the post of party deputy general secretary after Sasikala Natarajan became interim general secretary.

Early this month, around Rs 15 lakh was seized and 28 persons were arrested for their alleged role in various incidents of money distribution to voters and violence in the run-up to the April 12 bypoll.
