Criminal complaint against two ministers

The ministers along with Tamil Nadu’s representative in Delhi are accused of abusing a woman income tax official who was conducting search at Health Minister C Vijay Bhasker’s residence.

CHENNAI: THE Income-Tax department has filed a criminal complaint against two Tamil Nadu ministers and the State representative in Delhi for allegedly abusing and obstructing officials who were conducting searches at the Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijay Bhasker’s residence on Greenways Road on April 7.

The Housing Minister ‘Udumalai’ K Radhakrishnan, Food Minister R Kamaraj and Tamil Nadu’s representative in Delhi Thalavai Sundaram allegedly abused a woman income-tax official who was conducting the searches, and obstructed the investigation by barging inside Vijaya Bhasker’s Greenways Road house despite being stopped by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and income-tax officials. “Yes, a complaint has been filed in this regard,” said an income-tax official, adding, “Obstructing and abusing an official while discharging duty is an offence.” However, the State police refused to divulge any information about the complaint.

Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor of Dr MGR Medical University Dr S Geethalakshmi was grilled by the I-T officials for more than seven hours on Wednesday. The officials had reportedly recovered 2kg of gold from her residence during the raids on April 7.

Also, actress Radikaa and her husband, actor-politician R Sarathkumar were grilled by the income tax officials for nearly five-and-a-half hours. They came to the investigation wing around 3pm. They are being probed for more than `5 crore unaccounted cash. This is the second time Sarathkumar is being grilled for allegedly accepting money for extending support to AIADMK.

Speaking to Express, senior I-T officials claimed that Radikaa and Sarathkumar have admitted tax evasion to the tune of `5 crore.
