Registration for engineering counselling from May

The Higher Education Minister is hopeful about Centre considering TN’s demands on common engineering entrance.

CHENNAI: Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan on Wednesday released the calendar of events for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2017.

Online registration will commence on May 1 and counselling will get underway from June 27. “Students can apply for engineering counselling until May 31. Random number will be assigned on June 20 and rank list released on June 22,” he said.

Students have to fill the requisite details and download the applications from Anna University’s website. After enclosing necessary certificates they can send their applications to Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions Committee. J Indumathi, secretary, TNEA, said that this year students can pay counselling fee through online using the credit card and debit card.

To a query on common engineering entrance test proposed to be conducted by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) from 2018-19, the minister said, “We have made representations to the MHRD pointing out our concerns. We hope the Centre will consider our representation.”
Regarding the prolonged delay in the appointment of vice-chancellors to Anna University and Madras University, he attributed it to certain issues with the search committees.

He said now the committees were in the last leg of finalising the names and recommending it to the Governor. The appointments will be made shortly, he said.

These two universities are yet to conduct the convocation and award degrees to the students.
Higher education secretary Sunil Paliwal also said the V-Cs’ appointments are in an advanced stage.
