DINDIGUL: A Plus Two student who survived an acid attack during her Class X exams was attacked again at Kokkupatti, near Nilakottai on Friday last.
The victim, identified as Uma (name changed), is a 17-year-old girl. On Friday, she went to her sister's house on the next street. Since the house was under renovation, the front door was missing and Uma was sleeping near the door. Uma told Express that at around midnight, she felt someone’s hand on her forehead. When she tried to get up, the man held her down by her hair and poured acid on her forehead. When she screamed for help, the man escaped into the darkness.
On hearing her screams, Uma's sister came running and found her sister in severe pain. Uma was rushed to a nearby private hospital, from where she was referred to Nilakottai Government Hospital on Sunday. The hospital authority informed Nilakottai Police, who filed a case and are investigating.
Recalling the earlier incident, Uma said that it took place when she was studying for her Class X exam. She and her parents were sleeping on the verandah since it was hot. She added that all she remembers is excruciating pain and when she opened her eyes, she saw a tall, burly man.
Uma added that she could not identify the man’s face as it was dark, but stated she still felt the pain on her forehead. Her father said that they rushed her to a private hospital and soothsayers, but did not file a complaint, adding they did not have enemies.
Sources from the Nilakottai GH said that the girl refused to allow nurses cut some of her hair to apply ointment, adding it was difficult to figure out exactly what acid was used to attack her.
Nilakottai police inspector Karuppasamy said an investigation was on.
