THOOTHUKUDI: Customs officials seized heroin valued at Rs two crore from Rajapalayam beach near Thalamuthunagar in Thoothukudi late on Monday.
After receiving a tip off, sleuths intensified their search along the coastal areas of Threspuram to Tharuvaikulam strip in Thoothukudi.
They intercepted a person moving suspiciously at the beach on Monday. However, the suspect fled, but left behind the bag he brought.
The bag contained two kilos of heroin valued at Rs 2 crore, sources said. An intense search is on to nab the person involved in the crime, who is thought to have escaped by boat.
Official sources said announcement of the seizure will be released through a press statement
