CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is holding a crucial party meeting on Monday, the first after the merger of O Panneerselvam faction, to discuss certain issues, including formal expulsion of interim general secretary VK Sasikala and the threats posed by the dissenting MLAs.

The meeting of the unified party’s headquarters office-bearers, district secretaries, ministers, MPs and MLAs scheduled to begin at 9.30 am at the party office at Royapettah is expected to decide the date of convening the general council to complete the formalities for removing Sasikala from the post of general secretary.

“The meeting will fix the date for general council meet to seal Sasikala’s fate. There is no doubt that she will be removed by adopting proper procedure as per the rules governing the party organisation,” a senior AIADMK leader said on Sunday.

The pressure is mounting from the side of Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his supporters for a complete removal of Sasikala’s influence in the organisation, sources said, adding it had been one of the two key demands of the erstwhile rebels. As far as constituting an inquiry commission into the mysterious death of J Jayalalithaa, the matter will be taken up in due course, they said.

The meeting of top honchos of AIADMK will also take stock of the situation arising out of MLAs backing TTV Dhinakaran calling for a change of Chief Minister.
