Enhanced amenities for 2 Shatabdi trains

The Chennai-Mysuru and Chennai-Coimbatore Shatabdi trains will soon get brand new coaches with improved passenger amenities.

CHENNAI: The Chennai-Mysuru and Chennai-Coimbatore Shatabdi trains will soon get brand new coaches with improved passenger amenities. Aiming to improve passenger experience in premier trains, railways has chosen 14 Rajdhani and 15 Shatabdi trains across the country under project Swarna to provide better passenger amenities and hygienic standards.

According to official sources, the coaches will have complete painting of the interiors to an aesthetic international colour scheme and LED lighting to improve illumination.

With auto janitor system in toilets, faucets, stainless steel washbasins, improved soap dispensers, better quality dustbins and carefully chosen locations for ergonomic convenience will be provided.

In addition to this, night signage for easy identification of berths during night hours, blanket covers for first AC passengers in two different colours to ensure there are separate covers for to and fro journeys will be provided. “CCTV cameras in doorway area and aisles to monitor any suspicious activity with data storage, new design magazine bags with extra pocket for mobiles for fitting changing life style will also be there.”

To get feedback from passengers, three pilot coaches will be included in service to gather passenger feedback and assess journey worthiness, said official sources.

The railways had allotted `50 lakhs per rake to make these improvements. Works in newly built coaches are to begin soon. “After making the changes, Chennai - Mysore Shatabdi and Chennai - Coimbatore Shatabdi trains will have new coaches,” the sources said.
