Tamil Nadu's Bharathiyar University of mulls on embracing global education; submits blueprint to HRD Ministry

COIMBATORE: City-based Bharathiyar University today said it has submitted to the HRD Ministry, a blueprint for the next 15 years, to elevate it as a global university.

The blueprint to achieve Institution of Eminence focuses on values,culture and practices to enhance health,environment, energy and social development, a varsity release said.

It focuses on a holistic approach through education and research has been emphasised to transform the society, keeping sustainability as a priority.

The varsity,among the top arts and science Universities in Tamil Nadu in 2016 and 2017, has become eligible to apply for IOE and proposed for funding worth Rs 1,000 crore for the next five years, to attain the status, it said.

New advanced degree courses and integrated courses in various streams to the existing curriculum will be introduced.

world class infrastructure and research laboratories would be set up to support steps to achieve the objective and innovative ideas and cutting edge research given high priority, it said.

Further, under IOE, the University has autonomy to recruit foreign faculty members and admit foreign students.

One of the objectives under IOE was to recruit and admit one-third of faculty members and students from foreign countries to have truly a world class atmosphere in the campus, the release said.
