State universities in Tamil Nadu told not to make new faculty appointments

The Higher Education Department has asked State universities not to make fresh recruitments till a decision is taken on transferring excess staff from the Annamalai University to them.

COIMBATORE: The Higher Education Department has asked State universities not to make fresh recruitments till a decision is taken on transferring excess staff from the Annamalai University to them.

It directed the Bharathiar University authorities, in connection with a meeting of its Finance Committee in Chennai on Thursday, to not make any fresh appointments until further orders.

“There is a surplus of teaching and non-teaching staff in Annamalai University. In January 2016, some of the teaching staff were transferred to government colleges. As it is now facing a severe financial burden, more of the surplus staff have been identified in both the teaching and non-teaching categories,” said a senior department official.
