Two maragatha lingam idols seized in Erode district, three held

ERODE: Two antique emerald lingams valued at over Rs 10 crore were seized in the district today and three persons arrested in this connection, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of idol wing police led by Inspector General of Police Pon Manickavel carried out a raid at a private lodging house here and found three persons in possession of two 'maragathalingam' idols estimated to be over Rs 10 crore, they said.

The idols are suspected to have been stolen from a temple in Namakkal district five years ago, they added.

The trio was planning to sell the idols to a person, police said adding investigation is on.
