CHENNAI: The first bench of the HC has directed Greater Chennai Corporation to ensure that all illegally parked vehicles i.e. those parked beyond the permitted areas and in ‘no parking’ areas are towed away and penal action is taken, including imposition of fine.

The bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar gave the directive while passing further interim orders on a contempt application arising out of a PIL from ‘Traffic’ K R Ramaswamy, on Wednesday.

The matter relates to encroachment by hawkers and others on arterial NSC Bose Road.
The Special Officer attached to the Corporation should make weekly inspections and submit report after eight weeks, the bench said and posted the matter for hearing on December 22.
