CM kickstarts shooting of MGR biopic

CHENNAI: Chief Minister ‘Edappadi’ K Palaniswami on Friday inaugurated the first day shooting of the film ‘MGR’, which is being made as part of the former chief minister’s centenary celebrations.

The film, that is said to portray the life and times of the late AIADMK leader, is expected to be released in April next year. The teaser to the movie would be released in time for MGR’s birth anniversary in January. The CM along with Tamil Development Minister Ma Foi K Pandiarajan and Health Minister C Vijaya Basker inaugurated the shoot at MGR Government Film and Television Institute.

MGR’s look-alike and the actor expected to play the late politician in the movie, Sathish Kumar, was also in tow, waving to fans and posing for photographs.

While Tamil film director SS Stanley is expected to don the role of former Chief Minister C N Annadurai, actors including Singampuli and ‘Black’ Pandi have also been roped in for various parts in the film, made by Ramana communications. In a press release, Ramana communications said that audition for the roles of V N Janaki and J Jayalalithaa were going on.

Teaser in January

The teaser of the film will be released in time for MGR’s birth anniversary in Janaury and the movie is expected to be released by April next year. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami formally tapped the clapper board in the presence of Tamil Development Minister Ma Foi K Pandiarajan and Health Minister C Vijaya Basker at a function in the MGR Film City
