VELLORE: Have you ever felt the need for domestic helps and your search to find the suitable guy at affordable cost always proved futile? To meet this growing demand for the city dwellers where domestic service providers (skilled artisans) have become a rarity as many of them migrated to bigger cities where they can make more money, the Tamil Nadu Urban Livelihood Mission has launched a first-of-its-kind City Livelihood Centre here on a pilot basis in the state which was inaugurated by Collector S A Raman on Friday.

According to A R Sivaraman, project director of the Vellore unit of the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women, the aim of the centre is to provide a platform for the urban skilled trader to market their services while acting as one-stop shop for those seeking services.

In addition, it will facilitate necessary guidance, counseling and technical support to them. The centre will extend as many as 36 types of services for domestic requirement in the city. People can call the center at 0416-2212551 and ask for a particular service and the same would be fulfilled by a group of artisans who have already registered with the centre.
