CHENNAI: The DMK’s legistative party meeting on Tuesday decided to wait for the outcome of the Madras High Court hearing on the disqualification of 18 rebel AIADMK MLAs before chalking out its action plan.

The court had last week orderered a bar on letting the Edappadi K Palaniswami government taking a floor test in the Assembly till Wednesday following DMK’s petition. It had also restrained the Speaker from proceeding against 21 DMK legislators for alleged breach of privilege.

The meeting chaired by party working president M K Stalin reviewed the current political situation and implications of the disqualification of 18 rebels supporting ousted AIADMK deputy general secretary T T V Dhinakaran.

He elicited the views of his party MLAs and instructed them to get into alert mode in the event of the Madras High Court failing to stay the order of Assembly Speaker stripping membership of AIADMK rebels.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Stalin said, “Our future course of action will depend on the verdict of the court.” He said another meeting of DMK legislature party would be held on Wednesday to discuss and decide the next course of action.

While no action was initiated against O Panneerselvam (Deputy Chief Minister) and his supporters even after they voted against the government when it sought a trust vote in the Assembly, they had taken action against the 18 MLAs now in an unconstitutional manner, he said.

Earlier, the meeting of the legislature party passed a resolution empowering Stalin to take decisions that are required to unseat the government. Another resolution urged the Chief Secretary and the Director-General of Police (DGP) to stay away from AIADMK’s inner party affairs.

It said time would come when the Chief Secretary may have to answer why government funds were spent for MGR centenary celebrations which were used only for hurling abuses on DMK. The DGP (law and order) had been acting like a ‘personal security officer of AIADMK’, a resolution said.

During my recent tour across the State, several people from the Kongu belt (western Tamil Nadu from where EPS hails) requested me to oust the regime saying it is corrup.

Elections will reveal the real strength of the current government and its MLAs will soon be sent home.” Recalling that former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had full control of the party and government, Dhinakaran said he would strive to bring in Amma’s regime.
