Picketing by opposition parties delays nine trains in Tamil Nadu

Nearly 1,000 DMK supporters blocked the EMU local bound for Chengalpattu at Pallavaram and Chromepet stations for nearly 15 minutes.

CHENNAI: About nine trains including Express and EMU locals across the state witnessed a delay of 15 to 20 minutes, as a large number of cadres of DMK and other opposition parties staged a rail roko, demanding that the Centre constitute Cauvery Management Board. Nearly 1,000 DMK supporters blocked the EMU local bound for Chengalpattu at Pallavaram and Chromepet stations for nearly 15 minutes. The Railway Police and city police evicted them from the track.

As a result, other EMU trains also stopped for about five minutes in the Guindy-Tambaram section.
EMU locals bound for Gummidipundi were also been picketed at Korukkupet. DMK supporters detained the train at the station for more than 15 minutes.

They were forcibly removed from the track by police.

The Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit trains were also detained by cadre of the DMK and other opposition parties at the Kancheepuram and Walajahbad stations. They detained the MEMU passenger train bound for Thirumalpur.Express trains have also been held up at Madurantakam, Melmaruvathur, Coimbatore, Thiruparankundram and Tiruchy for nearly 15 minutes due to the protest.
