MADURAI: The Madras High Court today dismissed a PIL plea seeking to stay the Amma Two Wheeler Scheme of the Tamil Nadu government which would allow women to purchase mopeds by availing 50 per cent government subsidy.

Justices M Sathayanarayanan and R Hemalatha agreed with the government pleader that giving subsidy for the two wheeler was a policy decision of the government in which the court could not interfere.

However, they directed that while giving the subsidy, the government should insist on women having helmet with ISI mark.

In the PIL, the petitioner said the scheme, if implemented, it would cause financial burden to the government which was already reeling under crisis.
