COIMBATORE: AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran today said the recent IT raids at a firm supplying essential commodities to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation would mark the countdown of the K Palaniswami-led government.

Income tax raids at one of the two firms on July 5 for alleged tax evasion will signal the countdown of this government led by K Palaniswami, he said.

Besides, the verdict in the case relating to disqualification of 18 MLAs will 'show the door' to the government paving the way for AMMK to contest all the 234 constituencies and come to power, he asserted.

"I do not want to become the chief minister through the back door. We will contest from all 234 constituencies and form the Amma (Jayalalithaa) government," he said at a public meeting of the party here. Dhinakaran said he was making all out efforts to retrieve the party and the 'two leaves' symbol from "betrayers." In an apparent dig at Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, the AMMK leader said the person (Panneerselvam) will lose deposit in his home constituency of Theni.

Income Tax authorities had on July 5 conducted searches in 70 plus premises across Tamil Nadu for alleged tax evasion by two companies.

One of the two firms supplies essential commodities to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation for distribution through Public Distribution System and eggs under the Integrated Child Development Scheme.

Eighteen MLAs who were loyal to sidelined leader TTV Dhinakaran were disqualified after they had called on the governor on August 22 last year expressing their lack of confidence in the leadership of Palaniswami and seeking a change of guard.
